Hmm, interesting deal. Not sure if i'd do it, but interesting.

So, hoops, he is shopping Cpatt. Do you have any idea what teams may or may not be biting on these offers?

Roast and Erik,

I have no idea on what teams Hendry is in discussions with regarding Patterson, but one of my sources did indicate that Corey was being discussed as a package with pitching. Can't shed any light beyond this.

Hoops

No sweat. Thanks for the info, though. It'll be interesting to see if anyone bites and what we get for Corey if he does get traded.

In a pure scenery change for scenery change deal, could you see Patterson being dealt to San Diego for Sean Burroughs?

Can Burroughs play OF? or SS? I thought he was a pure third baseman?

He can play 3B and 2B. Even though he's been struggling, he would replace Macias on the roster as an upgrade, and then compete for the 2B job next year. I don't think Walker will re-sign with the Cubs.

Unless we get a new manager, who actually plays him correctly, I dont think he will either.

Either way, do you really think its to the point where we should trade patterson for a bench upgrade? Not harping, i'm actually wondering.

I think that's selling Corey for 15 cents on the dollar. He'd be better used as part of a larger package, or even a multi team deal (Yankees?).

Harp away! I don't see Burroughs as a bench player long term. I think he can be an effective 2B with a .350 range OBP, ideal for 2-hole or 8-hole on a well disciplined team. I don't see Corey's future anymore in Cubbie Blue - Hendry is privately motivated to trade him ASAP. With such low value, Hendry needs to find a team that has a similar issue.

I personally am open to any trade that gives the Cubs a player with upside potential. I am sick of Corey. He's just plain awful, and has single handedly killed this team with his incompetence in key situations. I'm not a big fan of Neifi either, so I want him cut ASAP.

I like the fact that Hendry wants Corey out, shows me he at least sees the problem, i dont have that same feeling with dusty.

Now, you meantioned Neifi being cut. Is that all your personal feeling, or do you have any insight that Hendry might not want him here much longer either?

What other teams have disappointing young talent? Laynce Nix in Texas, Austin Kearns, Burroughs...I really can't think of anyone else...

...What about using Corey and a top prospect to net an impact player? Would Hendry see that as overpaying?

Along those same lines, what would a package of Corey + Dope get us?

I'd rather not trade pie because of how badly patterson is doing, he could be our savior one day. But with lee's stellar season, maybe we dont need dope as bad...

Roast, Dope is exactly the kind of prospect we can afford to deal away. I'd bet Corey and Dope could get us something very good...

Wow, being right feels good.

So, that being said, What type of names do you guys think Patterson + dope could get us?

I'm no Hoops, but I'd say...

Those 2 + 2 arms gets us Dunn

Those 2 plus 1 arm and Lewis gets us Kotsay.

Those 2 gets us Huff.

Those 2 plus 2 arms gets us Mensch.

Those 2 gets us Preston Wilson (shudder)

Those 2 plus an arm could get us Vernon Wells.

Where do i sign?

ACtually, the more I think about that the two arms are probably Hill and Nolasco. Still like the deal?

I've brought it up previously, but I'm not sure there was much of a response, but I know we are going to have quite a few tough decisions regarding the rule 5. I would be interested in throwing in a guy or two we think might lose. Better than getting nothing for them. As far as I know the only guy who will run out of options is Dubois (and that shouldn't be a problem), will Kelton need to pass through waivers again? I don't think we have a 25 man issues, but definitely some 40 man.

For Dunn, yes.

Yes. Corey is going nowhere with us. Dope is great, but we have Lee. Hill and nolasco sound very promising, but Dunns addition would help us more than Hill/nolasco's departures woudl hurt us, IMO. Even after they leave, we are still not short of pitching in our system.

This goes a few posts back, but how exactly would a Patterson-Burroughs trade help the Cubs? You have nobody to play centerfield, Burroughs can't beat out either Walker or E-ramis, will never play third for the Cubs because of E-ramis and is probably too fat and immobile to ever be a real second baseman. Other than that, I just love it!

I doubt Patterson would start over Dave Roberts. How about Maddux and Patterson for Nady and Burroughs?? Burroughs has potential.

First of all, your use of "E-ramis" when he has drastically improved his defense is REALLY annoying.

Secondly, how would we have no one to play center? We have Hairston.

Thirdly, hoops is proposing the trade under the assumption(his personal beleif) that Walker will not be returning next year.

Finally, he's not fat. He's 6'2" 180lbs. Thats pretty skinny for being 6'2"

EDIT: also, an interesting note, he played 1 game at SS this year. I'd rather see him there than Neifi.

Patterson has "potential", too. Potential and 50 cents will buy you a phone call.

You, of all people, Goat Roaster should know what the E in E-ramis stands for.

First of all, E-ramis is lame. Just like Sam-"ME" and "K"orey, and every other negative nickname that bitter Cubs fans come up with.

But if you had to do this with Aramis, then Error-mis is a lot funnier and works a lot better than E-ramis.

Jake might be able to confirm this, but I think it was bitter Pirate fans that came up with both E-ramis and Error-miss Ramirez.

I know you weren't implying Cubs fans came up with those names, I just thought it was a worthy point of information.

I think you are correct.

Either way, still lame.
