Florida is rumoured to be shopping him. They are in the thick of the race and Encarnacion has been fairly productive this season, so the only reason they must be looking to deal him is that he's a free agent at the end of this season, and they don't plan on bringing him back next year, and feel they can adequately replace him short term (Conine).

I think they are looking to bolster relief pitching and get a prospect.

If the choice came down to Preston Wilson or him, would he be the lesser of two evils? Encarnacion is making $4.5M in 2005.

Encarnacion is a bit player, this is exactly the kind of move I DON'T want Hendry to be making. Either be a seller and set up for next year, or make the monster deal for an impact player. Don't go in-between though, that's a sure recipe for disappointment. Just say no to Juan, and Preston, and Kotsay et al.
