EPatt breaks into the hot sheet at #20 (where is Casey Kasem when you need him).

Patterson continues to be a nightmare for opposing pitchers as the Peoria leadoff man, leading the Midwest League in average (.366) and on-base percentage (.444).

Gallagher and Moore, both deserving, made the team photo.

BTW, no Cardinals made the hot sheet again this week. Hunh, go figure...

Sean Gallagher is the sole Cub on the Hot Sheet this week:

18. Sean Gallagher, rhp, Cubs (Low Class A Peoria)

Gallagher returned to early-season form on Monday, allowing two hits over seven shutout innings Monday night. His ERA in 15 starts is a Gooden-esque 1.53, and he's surrendered just 13 extra-base hits in 88 innings.

Hmmmm.

They clearly meant to say that his ERA is 1.43. :D

Season Totals

ETA: My stats agree with MILB, but most of them are drawn from MILB box scores. If BA has a separate source, perhaps that would explain the .10 discrepency.

EETA: Though I'd think that earned runs and IPs should be fairly easily verified, so it was probably just a misprint.

Is Epatt more of a true leadoff man than his brother, because Corey obviously is not? I'd assume Epatt is many years away from the cubbies though if at all.

The simple answer is yes.

The less simple answer is look at what they've done:

Corey in the Midwest League - .320 .358 .592, 45 BB, 115 K.

That was at age 19. When Eric was 19 he hit .346 .438 .458 at Georgia Tech. In the Midwest League at 22 he's hitting .348 .426 .509, with 28 BB and 52 K.

Eric has shown a bit better discipline, and much better bb/k ratio. He doesn't have the same power, but he's not a wimpy hitter. They both have very good SB ability.

My guess is he'll be in Florida either by the end of this year or the start of the next, and quite possibly AA by the end of 2006. If he does not suffer any hiccups between now and the end of 2006, and he's put up solid numbers in West Tenn, then I would give him a decent shot at making an appearance in Wrigley by 2007. But that is the fast track. Personally I'd like to see him given a chance to succeed at each level, and not be rushed. If he started 2008 as the leadoff man and 2nd baseman, at 25, I'd be very happy.

EPatt is back on the Hot List at #17 this week.

BA[/url]"]17. Eric Patterson, 2b, Cubs (Low Class A Peoria)

A mainstay on the Hot Sheet early in the season, Patterson has picked up the pace again, batting .356 in 22 July games to go along with season averages of .347/419/.536 with nine home runs and 29 stolen bases.

Ryan Harvey and Mark Pawelek made the team photo.
