Ben Cowles (on AA Tennessee 7-day IL - fractured left wrist) saw his first game since being hit by a pitch on his left wrist exactly six weeks ago while playing for the New York Yankees AA Somerset affiliate, just a few days prior to the Cubs acquiring him and RHRP Jack Neely from the Yanks in the Mark Leiter Jr trade at the MLB Trade Deadline. (Cowles was hitting 295/376/472 with nine HR, 25 doubles, and 14 stolen bases in 88 games prior to his injury). It was reported at the time of the trade that Cowles was likely done for the year, but he clearly is ready to play. He could even play SS for the Tennessee Smokies in the Southern League playoffs!
