It's the 3rd inning and Christian Franklin has already been on base two more time.  He clearly wants to be part of the post draft moving day.

Sam Armstrong needs to move up too.

5 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 1 BB, 7 K

2.76 ERA, 64 K, 19 BB in 62 innings at high-A

Moving Connor Noland up to Iowa would accommodate that nicely.

10 strikeouts through 6 innings tonight, and he's only at 73 pitches so decent chance he goes out for the seventh with a chance to tack on a few more.

Let’s make it 11 through 7.

Wonder how bad Chattanooga’s offense is after Birdsell owned them earlier this week too.

So sans any transactions, this is likely the starting pitching depth chart to open next year?

Steele

Imanaga

Taillon

Wicks

Brown

Assad

Horton

Wesneski

Birdsell

Noland

That is pretty phenomenal depth.  Like you probably wouldn't want Noland starting a bunch of games next year but you feel good if someone like him is's your 10th starter.  I definitely think there's opportunity to deal someone in the Taillon to Assad range while adding a SP in FA.

Hot take is the range to trade from is Brown to Horton.* Hypothetically if Cubs were to convert that trio into a healthy workload ready power RH (Bradley, Gilbert, idk Reese Olson) that’s a huge win

Theo, back in his Boston days, believed that “anyone” could pitch in front of a great offense. If the Cubs shore up the offense btw now and April 2025 then I’m a believer whoever still throws strikes btw Noland/Birdsell can do pretty well (similar to Assad) during the early option years. They’re not loaded with tools but Birdsell in particular’s got the different look

Why not use those pitchers to get a young hitter? I think you have a good bullpen shaping up, along with some guys who can give you quality innings in long relief (Wesneski) so I’m all for trading Brown/Assad while their value is high. I’m hanging onto Taillon unless I get a great offer or will seriously commit to spending 600M on Soto and need to clear some cap.

My post wasn’t clear about it but those guys don’t need to go for a pitcher. If I could pick one player to trade for rn that’s available enough it’s Luis Robert

Gotcha. That’s what I thought you meant initially, then thought you meant for a pitcher. Would absolutely love a Robert deal.
