I was one of like 3 people here who actually wanted Swanson, but I've still been pleasantly surprised.

Mainly, I didn't know he had so much opposite field juice.  Dansby's big thing is that despite fairly average power, he gets quite good power production.  A big part of that is hitting everything in the air, but I had also assumed the balls he actually did damage on were all pulled.  But he's already stung several the opposite way.

The other is I didn't expect a ton of highlight reel plays on defense.  I expected more of a "takes care of absolutely everything he should" deal kind of like Nico.

Oh yeah, Swanson is elite defensively. That's the one thing I never had in doubt.

Still though, that throw yesterday was wow.

I thought I remembered when the Cubs signed him that his range was actually rather average, but he was elite at making plays that he got to.  Doesn't seem to be the case with some of the plays he's made so far.

I really did not want Swanson because I thought he'd be overpaid for his services and the other SS options were far more enticing (I really wanted Turner). It's only been a week so who knows what will happen, but I've always been perfectly happy eating crow on any of my horrible acquisition opinions

I'd rather have Correa or Turner but Swanson is sneaky-good. And if we're talking Correa/Turner for $325m+ or Swanson at $170m, it's a much harder decision and you're probably getting more value out of Dansby with a lot less risk.

Only the completely bat-**** insanity of the Correa deal that finally landed at "only" $200m guaranteed confuses the situation.

been slumping for what seems like forever, but still has a .750+ ops and 4.3 fwar. his defense is just unreal.

the cubs have an outside shot at three 5-win players this year

Maybe coming out of that slump too?  11 for his last 31 (see I can use my arbitrary end point stat powers for good too)

It's wild to think that Dansby was almost hidden in that ridiculous Braves lineup, but having watched a lot of Braves baseball because of my brother being a fan, I was still surprised by Dansby's game, leadership, preparation.

In other Dansby news, he apparently bought Theo's Lakeview mansion for $3.5 mil

Theo bought it for $3.25 not a great return on investment
