Yeah, essentially the Cubs traded Tyson Miller for Dakota Chalmers. Miller might have a higher floor, but Chalmers definitely has a higher ceiling and is a year younger.

 

He did allow 3 walks in 4 innings last night, but has limited free passes to just 4 in 9.2 innings since joining the Cubs. Historically, he's been a lot worse than that, so there may be some regression to the norm in his future, but if not, the Cubs may have something. Chalmers has been very difficult to hit throughout his minor league career. He hasn't allowed a BAA higher than .175 since 2016. If he can keep his BAA low and walks less than 4 per 9, he has a shot at being more than just a reliever...

I can’t believe the number of legit looking RPs this org is starting to produce.

It is fun to watch and refreshing to see.

 

Tommy Nance, Ben Leeper, Cayne Ueckert and Scott Kobos bust on the scene. Ethan Roberts, Brendan Little and Eury Ramos take a step forward. Manny Rodriguez and Jeremiah Estrada return from injury and pitch really well. And guys like Hunter Bigge, Danis Correa, Eduarniel Nunez and Joe Nahas show potential.

 

That's 13 names, only a few of which were previously just mildly on the radar. And that doesn't count the starting prospects that are always way more likely to break in as relievers. That's some depth.
