They also could wait until July if they can stay afloat and trade for Machado and sneak under luxury tax.

 

Which is what I think they’ll do. Can’t see any team paying the premium for the extra months of Machado right now so he won’t be going anywhere, and they don’t need to commit to this season unless they’re still competitive in a few months.

I doubt Merrifield or Gennett could handle SS, and Merrifield is still cheap enough that the Royals would probably require a hell of a lot. Galvis seems like a good fit, 1 year deal on a terrible team, but he's kind of terrible himself.

 

I was figuring since Forsythe and Turner were also hurt, they’d be looking for whatever cheap, not necessarily horrible infielders on bad teams they could find.

 

I thought about adding Starlin to my list, but at $14M, he’s probably too expensive for them.

 

They could still send Kemp and basically their entire farm system to the Orioles for Machado.
