can we just make a new rule that nobody ever talks about heyward's swing mechanics?

he's going to suck or he will do better and be just alright. i'm sick and tired of it

That's fine. I'm just saying that until he fixes his swing mechanics he'll never be that productive (on offense) ever again. That's why the Cubs tried to fix his swing last offseason, and Chili Davis has been working with him this spring.

I don't know if the problem is mental, swing mechanics or timing issues. Maybe it's a combination of all those things. I don't have an issue discussing the problem however.

I’m sure you don’t and that’s fine.

What I’m saying is that it’s gotten to the point where it feels like arguing with my ex and at some point you just have to ignore it because the horse has been beaten to death already so let the poor thing RIP.

Fair enough. I get it.

it would appear that kyle is getting quite a bit more break on his curveball

He's using a new grip this year.

Really? Curious to see what it looks like now...

I know Contreras is trying to get him to throw it more often and have full confidence in his repertoire.

Here's a longish quote from a much longer article on The Athletic:

Hendricks came into spring training with two things on his mind: developing more consistency throughout the season and improving his curveball. While playing catch with Mike Montgomery on Field 2, Hendricks, using a grip he’d never tried, spun a curve better than he’s ever been able to before.

“I caught the ball and it had a little bit different action than a lot of the other curveballs that I’ve caught,” Montgomery said. “I said, 'Hey, that’s it right there.' He said it felt so much better out of his hand, he just said it felt different. For me, it definitely looked different. He threw a couple more and we knew that was the one that he could develop a feeling for.”

As the two finished playing catch, they walked over to the half field and chatted about curveballs. Montgomery has a strong curveball himself. He told Hendricks that he spent some time working with Cubs pitching coach Jim Hickey, who seemed to have a knack for helping pitchers with their curveballs, when the two were both in Tampa.

The article is quite good - worth signing up for a trial subscription to read the whole thing.
