17-year-old DSL RHP Yovanny Cruz completed his 5th strong start out of 6 today going 6 innings allowing 1 hit, no runs, 1 walk while striking out 5 and inducing 8 ground ball outs to just 1 in the air. He had 4 solid starts to begin his pro career after getting rocked for 10 hits and 5 runs in his last outing.

His season totals now stand at 27 IP, 24 H, 8 ER, 3 BB, 26 K. That's a WHIP of 1.00 and an ERA of 2.67.

Its why I want them to be aggressive with Lange. He'll be in the exact same boat as Hatch this time next year.

Hatch is 22.

And he will be all season.

I find that's right in line with the average age for High-A college draftees. So, I'm okay with his current placement. I would feel better if he saw time in AA before the season ends, however. Of course, that all depends on the benchmarks the Cubs have for him in his personalized development plan. Don't know what they're looking for. Greater FB command? Here's hoping he hits those benchmarks, and we get to see him in Tennessee before too long.

Dang, I guess Austin Upshaw's 2 HR game in AZ got him jumped to SB. In his second game there, he's 2-2 with a double. He was listed as a first baseman when they drafted him, but he's playing 2B and on MiLB he's listed as a SS.

He didn't have eye popping power or walk numbers in college but had relatively high average and decent K numbers. I'm certainly more interested in the other Austin (Filiere), but that 2 HR game and the aggressive promotion makes him an interesting follow for now.

Tseng with another dominant start

Yeah this uptick in Ks is encouraging. After the 10 K effort tonight he's got 48 Ks over 44.1 innings in his last 7 starts. Average of more than 6 IP per start too.

5 5 1 1 2 5, on 86 pitches, is the final line for Hatch.

All's well that ends well.

DJ Wilson is making his 1st rehab start tonight for the Mesa Cubs. Looking forward to see what Albertos does. Perlaza and Sierra off to decent starts as well.

Tseng with another dominant start

Time to flip him and Hedges.

With over 200 IP in AA and his performance of late, I'd like to see that.

Hatch gives up a HR. That's bad. Then he gets three outs via a popup, groundball, and K. That's good! He's only given up 2 HRs in 72 IP this season. That's good! He's 23 in High A. That's bad. It's not that bad if you don't suck and he hasn't, but more bad than good if you want a star pitcher out of last year's third round pick.

So what's the horsefeathers are you saying in this post?

What was D.J. Wilson's injury?

It wasn't ever found out exactly. I think he got injured on a defensive play. He was listed on the DL.

If it were for poor play, he would've showed up in ExST games and then gotten in games right when the short-season teams started.

What was D.J. Wilson's injury?

I think he was just getting his ass kicked in SB.

Kind of weird he took six weeks off in Arizona if he had a phantom injury. And quite the coincidence he played only half the game yesterday in his first appearance back, just like a rehabber normally does.
