it's a week's worth of games where they have nothing to play for. it's a team that is going to approach 105 wins. i couldn't care less what anybody does in these games and it's going to mean virtually nothing in a week, short of a pitcher's arm actually arm falling off or some injury.

 

by the same token, you really shouldn't feel any better about next friday if they win the next 4 games by 4-5 runs each on the backs of their good players.

They may not be holding back, but they may not be 100% mentally in the game either, which I think was exactly what Arrieta/Montero were complaining about. It's tough to have that mental and competitive edge right now, especially when Joe is trying to rest guys.
