Which players will be in it for the long haul?

We've had quite a few players arrive the past couple years that appear capable of being major leaguers for 10+ years, or at least beyond free agency. We won't be able to keep them all, so who will we extend? When we look back at the end of these guys' careers who do you think we might say was the true "core four" from this era?

All of them save for Baez and Russell will hit FA around age 30, there's going to be very few that we *want* to keep beyond their team control if that decision ends up being made at the time of FA.

 

With that in mind, I'll say Russell, Bryant, maybe Rizzo, and maybe Contreras.

Is anybody really anywhere for the long haul these days? The obvious core of the core is Rizzo, Bryant, and Russell. Rizzo's the poster boy, despite arguably being the least valuable of the 3, due to position, so he's the most likely. Bryant and Russell are both Boras guys, so while extending both is possible, it's going to be costly, and probably not come a minute before their respective free agency.

 

If we were to extend all 3 of them, it's an easy $70mm, so after that, it depends on what we can afford.
