Neil Ramirez was designated for assignment after we called Szczur back up off the DL.

I was just thinking about this and now I kinda hate Neil Ramirez. He was good when we sucked and got injured and sucked once we became good. Then, I started thinking, and his existence on the 2014 Cubs possibly helped us win a couple games we would have lost with some random minor league scrub in his place. So not only did he suck when we were good, but he might have cost us Andrew Benintendi by being good when the rest of the team sucked.

Irrational love for Cubs players continued.

I always wanted Ramirez to be our next closer. Sad day.

Who knows what will ultimately become of Neil Ramirez, but I have to assume that whatever potential he had left is more valuable than Koyie Hill v. 2.0 continuing to exist for no good reason.

Why, can he catch?

Gee, I can't fathom why the Cubs would carry an extra catcher to back up and old man and a guy with a bad back for the time being.

He's a waste of a roster spot. He can't hit worth a damn, and if the need for a back up-back up catcher arose, we could pick up another 10 of Fedorawhatsit on a moment's notice. Besides, isn't there supposed to be an emergency catcher on every roster? One of the bench guys who could survive a few innings behind the plate in the even that the other two are out of the game?

I'm guessing the FO thinks Baez can't frame pitches at all.

why not sendHeyward to the 15 day DL? He's had a lingering sore wrist and now this new injury. Taylor Davis would make sense as a third catcher on this roster , he can be a bat off the bench /and fill in at 3B/OF in a pinch. Ca

Yeah, there was one, and then his leg exploded. Until Montero's back is up to snuff they're going to have a cruddy 3rd string catcher.

I'm guessing once Heyward is back, the Cubs will send down Fedorowicz and bring up another bullpen arm. My guess is Edwards. Federowicz was probably going to go down when Szczur came back, but the fact that Szczur probably came back a few days early and replaced an OF that can't play right now saved Tim's job for now.
