Figure he deserves his own thread since there will probably be rumors of him getting moved, the Giants declined options on Aoki and Byrd today. I wonder if there's a fit there for him? Also with assuming payroll restrictions/limitations he wouldn't be a bad guy to deal as it would clear some decent salary.

MLBTR has him at 3.9 in arbitration, which is a very nice bargain for what his production has been. He probably has more value to us than what he'd bring us in return(especially if Soler is dealt.) If he brings us back a reliever that's actually good(like Grimm) then I'm more willing to deal him. If all he brings is a Candelario type prospect, then I'd keep him and try to save money elsewhere.

Brantley is out 5-6 months with a shoulder injury/surgery, I wonder what kind of value we could get for Coghlan from the Indians as he could be viewed as a cheapish injury space holder/hedge on Brantley not being 100% all year? Or maybe this will help boost his value as a 2/3rd piece in a trade for one of their starters. Edited by Cubswin11

I wonder how much extra the Indians would need to consider sending Bauer to the Cubs? Coghlan plus what?

Bauer is a guy that I'm intrigued by, and think a change of scenery will benefit him tremendously. His home splits last year were pretty ugly in just about every way possible. Even though he walked fewer batters at home last year, he appears to have been effectively wild on the road, limiting hitters to a much lower average and securing a nice little WHIP for himself. He was terrible in the 2nd half, so maybe that keeps his cost low? (And I realize I'm dreaming on that part, considering he's not even arbitration eligible until 2017.)

Because of walks, he doesn't get deep into games, but if he's our 4th or 5th starter, that's to be expected.

What could we give here?

It should take something significant to get Bauer, the stuff/pedigree/some periods of sustained success are there and he's still young and cheap. I absolutely love the idea of him tho, he's very intelligent. Haven't heard many players talk about pitching like he does.
