This was kind of the story (about a good player, not a superhuman alien) behind the documentary "The Battered Bastards of Baseball" which was about an independent baseball team in Portland who played against minor league baseball teams and they would always make it to the championships but the team they'd face would demote all their higher level players to come in and wipe the floor with them.

 

It's also one of the best sports docs I've seen and I highly recommend it.
