yeah i was convinced he was gonna be a stud. another RIP guy. it's really unbelievable how many mid-late 90's cubs starting pitchers have died (+ beck). jaime navarro and jim bullinger better watch their backs.

Jim Bullinger still lives here in NOLA and is really involved in youth baseball in the area. He's an acquaintance of mine and a really good guy. I haven't seen him in about a year but I'd pick his brain about the 90's Cubs sometimes.

There was another one I was looking for, where Piazza said he got a call with his agent telling him to pack his bags for the Cubs...then he took a shower and when he got out, his agent called him saying he was going to the Mets.

Yeah, but then they wouldn't have gotten Bryant.

Was it Ed Lynch or Andy MacPhail?

Ed Lynch was GM. MacPhail was president in seemingly a less hands on sort of way than Theo is today.

MacPhail "took over" as GM in 2000, I believe, and promptly traded for Rondell White.

Hendry was promoted a year or two later.

I loved the Rondell White trade at the time.....and then he pulled, strained and tore every muscle imaginable. Oh steroids :)
