I thought Bryant hit balls like that to RF. Actually, he did that just yesterday. Does his spray chart really indicate they should be shifting on him?

There's a lot of guys who get shifted even though they aren't pull-monsters just because they very rarely hit groundballs the opposite way. That might be a bit aggressive for Bryant, but the downside is limited.

So when he goes the other way it's usually in the air/line drive? I could buy that. Would love to see the chart.

Castro will be gone by the all star break. Has had a nice stint as a Cubs player but we need to move him for an arm and move Addison to short.

my god you're a [expletive] weirdo

I wonder if Soler and Castro get swapped in the order next series.

They should be batting Montero ahead of him, too. I don't know why they've insisted on keeping him in the #4 spot as long as they have.

Only if you can someone who can consistently put up 4 WAR/season at SS.

And when you find that guy, can you have him work with Castro to hopefully make him that good?

(Note: I appreciate the response to a madman talking about dumping Castro, but Castro has never consistently put up 4 WAR seasons)

If we're gonna replace Castro, it needs to be a clear better replacement. I think Castro is a 2-3 WAR/season player for the rest of his career, and I don't think that 4 WAR SS is in our system.

Ah, gotcha.

I thin Russell very easily could be that guy, but I also think he can be that guy at 2B, too.

yeah, part of the problem with trading Castro and putting Russell at SS is that you've now created a hole at 2B that needs to be filled. Unless you are confident Baez or Alcantara are ready now, then you haven't really fixed anything.

You do realize that trading him when the thing you're named after isn't particularly high doesn't really make much sense, right? Terrible trade speculation by hack baseball writers doesn't mean that actual GM's don't notice how he's struggled this year or two season ago. He's not somehow damaging the team, so hopefully they just move him down in the lineup for the time being.

and Bryant has had disappointing HR output...

He's at 5 in 35 games which is a 23 home run pace for 162 games. I think we all would like more but that combined with a .850+ OPS from a rookie is pretty good.
