Really like that pick for Philly, worth the risk with still having pick 10. Easily could have gotten the best player in the draft

Totally agree. Great pick. At worst they have the best front line the league in 2-3 years.

no, at worst Embiid becomes Greg Oden and Nerlens Noel doesn't develop an offensive game and ends up being Omer Asik with good hands (who would be a good player, but not part of the best front line in the league)

Actually they control him for 5 years but more like 7.

It's 4 I thought? First 2 years guaranteed and then 2 team option years follow that.

Yeah but after that they can give him a qualifying offer or try to extend him. If he doesn't take the qualifying offer or refuses an extension, he can become a RFA, which in that case, the team can match any offer. So essentially they control him for 5 years, but if he doesnt take the QO, they control him for at least 3 more years (standard post-rookie contract)

Yeah I know he's essentially guaranteed to be around longer with how the CBA works I was just saying only 4 are "guaranteed." With Derwood saying he's 3 years and out.

2 years plus 2 option years. 5th year is at worst a QO, but more realistically he signs a new deal as a RFA that they could match in which he'd be able to opt out after 3 years.

7th year is also when the max bumps up to 30% so makes sense that's when an opt out would be.

Exum, Burke and Burks along with potentially keeping Hayward who plays some 2. Seems like too many guards unless they plan on letting Hayward walk or trading Burke/Burks.

Yeah, basically what PG/Boogie did this past offseason

Embiid is a much better player than Oden. Much better athlete and far more polished game. Oden had/has no jumper or moves around the basket. He was pure power. Noel is a far better athlete than Asik. His ceiling is Tyson Chandler and his floor Tyrus Thomas. Your comparisons make no sense.

He becomes Oden if his injuries keep him from ever making an impact... not saying it will happen, but big guys with back and foot injuries don't have great track records... the human body just doesn't work like that.

And Asik probably was a bad comparison, I just thought of the first defense-only big man I could think of that actually has some talent.

Hey look - the Kings just drafted a taller Fredette.

Why not take Harris there? At least he can defend. Kings are very poorly run franchise.

Stauskus is much better than Jimmer, more athletic and 4-5 inches taller. Probably nearly as good a shooter

You are probably right, but Harris and Vonleh were there.

Don't disagree that Harris was a better option, just that Staukus-Jimmer comp isn't right. I think they should have gone Elfrid Payton, personally.

I agree. Or take Vonleh and trade him for a guard.

Shite, I wanted McDermott to fall to Bulls.

BTW, where are all the trades we kept hearing about?

EDIT: And of course Simmons compared McDermott to Adam Morrison. He's obsessed with Morrison.

The guy on the far right on the ESPN panel needs to stop saying that this is a "weird draft"

Interesting to see a guy like McDermott on the Bulls.
