I don't think the streak brought back some mad hockey fans that were otherwise pouting in a corner not watching, but I do think it go hockey coverage on some outlets that it wasn't before. Say what you will about ESPN, SI, etc, but the uber-casual sports fan is still watching those, and got more hockey coverage than they otherwise would. Lebron wasn't tweeting about other hockey teams, and that's certainly not a close-knit frequent hockey watching audience following him.

I get why the wording ruffled feathers, but I also understand the perception that the Hawks did a lot to increase hockey awareness.

did they bring hockey back? no

did they elevate the prominence of hockey in the dialogue of professional sports with the recent streak? yeah, duh. anyone who denies this has motives

Jimmy Hayes recalled from Rock Vegas. I guess we'll see if he can provide that net presence that his size indicates he should.

I'm interested to see how Q uses him. I thought he'd be the call up when Sharpie went down.

not a fan of this decision. we have two priorities: 1) win more faceoffs; 2) mitigate the drop in production due to injuries. not sure about jimmy's contribution to the first, but of the possible candidates, he's one of the least likely of the legit candidates to produce the type of game that is need to fill the void created by Sharp's injury. he's basically kyle beach with less brain damage

Sounds like Hayes was skating with the 2nd line yesterday in practice so he'll at least start there. Knowing Q, he'll probably try to mix in Carcillo on that line at some point.

I'm guessing the lineup looks like this tonight:

Saad-Toews-Hossa

Hayes-Bolland-Kane

Bickell-Shaw-Stalberg

Carcillo-Frolik-Bollig (this line in anticipation of some goonery on the part of the BJs)

I could see Hayes taking a couple shifts centering that 4th line.

I think you're missing Kruger. Scratch Bollig and slot Kruger in at 4C. I agree they'll probably (unfortunately) throw Carcillo up on the second line as well, I just hope they keep the third line intact. I would have preferred Morin over Hayes, but as long as Bollig keeps sitting in the press box, I'm alright.

You're right about Kruger. That is our best lineup with available personnel. It would be great to not see Bollig but I bet we see him and Brookbank tonight.

You're right about Morin over Hayes too. Hayes has been playing a lot of C at the Rock so maybe he's gotten decent at the dot and can take some of Bolland's faceoffs.

Realignment article with quotes from Rocky:

I'm cool with this. Yeah it sucks to lose Detroit but it just means those two games per season will be more special. And playing in every city every year is a huge plus.

Have they figured out how playoffs will work with uneven divisions?

Yeah...top 3 teams from each division plus the next 2 best teams. So you could have 5 teams from one division and 3 from the other, or 4 and 4.

Will the division winner with fewer points be guaranteed the #2 seed like they get the #3 now?

I have no idea what this is saying:

The top three teams in each division will make-up the first 12 teams in the playoffs. The remaining four spots will be filled by the next two highest-placed finishers in each conference, based on regular-season points and regardless of division. It will be possible, then, for one division to send five teams to the postseason while the other sends three.

The seeding of the wild-card teams within each divisional playoff will be determined on the basis of regular-season points. The division winner with the most points in the conference will be matched against the wild-card team with the lowest number of points; the division winner with the second-most points in the conference will play the wild-card team with the second fewest points.

The teams finishing second and third in each division will play in the first round of the playoffs. The winners of each series will play for berths in the Conference Championship series.

So if the Hawks, Wild and Stars were the 3 playoff teams in division A (in order), with the Canucks, Ducks and Kings the 3 teams in division B, with the Blues and Sharks as the wild cards, I think this is saying that the first round would look like this:

1A Blackhawks vs. 2WC Sharks

1B Canucks vs. 1 WC Blues

2A Wild vs. 3A Stars

2B Ducks vs. 3B Kings

I have no idea where they go from there....I'm assuming they would play the winner of the series involving the winner of that division. So say the Hawks Canucks Wild and Ducks won...the Semis would be:

1A Blackhawks vs. 2A Wild

1B Canucks vs. 2B Ducks

Way more complicated than it needs to be.
