Walter's latest mock has us going DT/CB in the first 2 rounds. If Emery did that he'd come under intense fire for not addressing the OL.

Unless he goes out and sign 2 OLs in FA. With Jones and Short being picked right before the Bears, I would either trade up a couple spots to get one of them or just trade down into the 2nd round, draft Sheldon Richardson and gain a 3rd round pick.

I doubt he could find 2 above average O-linemen in free agency

Hopefully they re-sign Melton and don't have to worry about drafting a DT. I would hate to draft a DT just two years after drafting Paea in the second round.

I have no problem with drafting a CB, especially Jordan Poyer who I really like, if the OL is addressed. They're going to have to sign an OT in free agency. If the draft plays out like this, they better trade up to get Barrett Jones. You can't let a stud go one spot ahead of you.

I'll take 2 average ones. That'll be better than what they got right now. Even then, I imagine Emery is going to stick with Webb and Carimi for next year at OT then probably resign Lance Louis?? that'll leave a starting OG and C plus whatever backups. I can't see him completely overhauling the OL in a single offseason.

Eh. Barrett Jones is no stud. He's solid but not a stud like the Pounceys, Iupati, or even his teammate Warmack.

Also as I stated yesterday, even with Melton 're-signed the Bears need a solid 3rd DT. Don't have much after Melton and Paea.

Also Jordan Poyer is my man crush. My guy last year was Casey Hayward who has 4 Ints for the Packers

I hope they re-sign Melton as well so all they need is a 4th DT which you can get at the min most likely.

I really like Poyer too and without a 3rd this year, I'm comfortable with a CB pick over say a OL (as we should try to get Barret Jones) or MLB (don't really like any that much at the end of 2nd). Didn't realized DJ Moore is going to be a FA and then Tillman and Jennings will be on last year of contract next year so they really need more help there than I thought.

I don't believe Jones is a stud either, but he's solid like you said. Not only that, he's solid at multiple positions. Those guys you mentioned were all top 20 picks and Warmack probably will join them where a stud OL should go. If the Bears are a late first pick, then Jones is a very good value pick IMO and fits a team needs.

Then again... It's a long time till the draft. It's like what? 180 days or something?

Maybe stud was too much praise but I do think Jones can play guard and center at a near All-Pro level. You're right that he's definitely not as good as the Pounceys Iupati or Warmack.

4. I’m not sure we’ve seen a team as bad as the Bears start 6-1.

I don’t like teams with bad offensive lines and moody quarterbacks. The Bears can’t protect Jay Cutler and eventually that's going to catch up with them. The Carolina Panthers' front four owned Chicago on Sunday. If Steve Smith doesn’t slip and fall, the Bears lose at home to the Panthers.

I see the 5-3 Packers winning the NFC North and the Bears backing into the playoffs at 10-6. Lovie Smith and Jay Cutler are going to stick around Chicago for a few more years and continue to do the same dance.

No mention of the defense at all.

I dont think theres much doubt that the bears are a super bowl caliber team. Anyone who doesnt recognize this is being willfully ignorant.

Moody quarterback.

Well he at least has a point about the o-line.

Yeah but anybody can focus on the bad part of a team without mentioning the strengths.

Don't do that clown the favor of clicking on his stories.

Why aren't the Packers discredited for almost losing to the Jaguars at home (not to mention losing to the Colts), when the Bears beat them by almost 40 in Jacksonville? Oh that's right, Aaron Rodgers was able to stablize his mood throughout the game.

I think there's plenty of reason for doubt. There are a few really good NFC teams.

I can easily think of worse teams that have gotten off to as good or better starts. Last year's Lions. 2009 Broncos.

Probably others, because the 2012 Bears are very very good.

The Bears are one of them. Saying they are of the caliber to get there doesn't imply that they will get there.

Whitlock is a moron, anyway.

I loved when B&B had him on after he wrote the column ripping on Cutler for the NFCCG.

He's right that the pass protection issues may come back to haunt us. But that alone doesn't mean the Bears are the worst team to ever be 6-1, or whatever nonsense he's trying to portray.

Also, he's wrong about the Steve Smith slip. A number of things could have happened if Smith didn't slip. It wouldn't have automatically meant a Bears loss.

He supports Cam Newton, in spite of his moody behavior. But when it comes to Cutler, he suddenly doesn't like moody QBs...

That's because Jason Whitlock is a racist.

i said "super bowl caliber", meaning if they make the super bowl, no one should be surprised.

And I might buy that if they could beat the 49ers or Packers or any other good team.

And if the niners could beat the vikings and if the packers could beat the seahawks i might believe the same about them.

The Colts would've been better to use there than the Seahawks.
