Couple questions. Who is the better BOR prospect Brooks Raley or Eric Jokisch? And would Matt Loosen get the nod as the best Cubs arm not in rookie ball?

Probably, but that speaks to how terrible our pitching talent is.

Indeed. Unless they acquire some close to major league ready arms via some trades, it's going to be a while before the Cubs have anybody ready to contribute at the top of the rotation.

Currently at Mesa is Paul Blackburn and Dillon Maples, who finally threw last night. Yet to appear are Pierce Johnson and Duane Underwood. That's four. Outside of Ben Wells, who is recovering from TJS, that's it. Unless, Whitenack or McNutt somehow return to form.

Jose Arias, Tayler Scott, and James Pugliese at Boise are all solid arms. Jose Rosario and Starling Peralta at Peoria as well. Whitenack should be given a bit of a pass coming of TJS.

Yes, they're solid but not projected to be TOR. Whitenack is being given a pass for that reason exactly.

Was just listing good arms not in rookie-ball.

Sorry. And I agree, those guys are solid, but earlier in the thread I was talking about who in the system could be considered a top of the rotation guy. Sorry for any confusion.

And thanks for the Vitters piece. It was a breath of fresh air to read. Finally, somebody is open to looking at what he has become instead of the guy thy had written off.

No way - I'd say Rosario, Jensen, Peralta and Whitenack are better arms in full season ball and I'd take Scott and Arias in shortseason too.

I'd say Raley is the better prospect; they have similar stuff but Raley has had extended success at both AA and AAA (and I would have answered this question in favor of Jokisch early this season).

Torreyes is 1-2 with a triple so far tonight.

2/4 now with 2 RBI, 2 runs and a SB. His season avg is up to .266 which is saying something given his horrendous start. Good to see that since June, he's been his old self.

McCuffin!!!! ‏@drocthekid

Baez? ..RT @BenBadler: He's third, after Machado RT @RyanWahoo is Lindor the next best SS prospect after Profar?

Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler

I give Lindor the slight edge, but there are plenty of scouts who put a higher grade on Baez. Close in value, but very different skill sets.

Ben Badler ‏@BenBadler

Baez more power, Lindor better approach & glove RT@OscarBluth5 Is it just the defense plus being 1 year younger that gives Lindor the edge?

Brett Jackson was pulled from the Iowa Cubs game around the same time as Gritty McGritterson was spotted shaking hands in the Cubs dugout. See you tomorrow Brett?

would be shocked if they called him up.

He's nowhere ready, he would be embarrsed in the big leagues

He'a at the point where he might not be big league ready, but an extra 2 months in Iowa won't magically stop him from striking out every other at bat. In fact a few hours ago, someone on Twitter (it wasnt just some random, but it wasnt one of the big timers either) noted that while he Ks a ton, he works a full count more than anyone else in the minors. He just needs to be better a judging that payoff pitch.
