Now, I may be having an Andy Pettit moment and be "misremembering", but I remember a game in 80s. The Cubs had brought up a minor league pitcher and they brought him in for his MLB debut with the bases loaded. He promptly balked 3 times and was pulled. I never saw him again.

No, I don't remeber his name and I will concede it was almost 30 years ago and I was a punk teenager at the time. But I'm standing by it. Besides, it's too good of a story to abandon just because it might not be true. :)

Oh well, that's the way I remember it. Been awhile.

Nationals made sense to me too, but why Texas? Don't they have Torrealba to backup still?

This is an insane and entertaining evening, btw. :D

edit: It's Texas

The Cubs have traded Geovany Soto to the Rangers, Yahoo's Tim Brown reports (on Twitter). The Cubs will obtain Jacob Brigham and Danny Knobler in the trade CBSSports.com reports (on Twitter). This trade isn't related to the Reed Johnson deal, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (on Twitter).

Soto, 29, has a .195/.278/.345 batting line in 194 plate appearances this year. The 2008 NL Rookie of the Year earns $4.3MM in 2012 and is on track to go to arbitration for the third time this offseason. However, he could be non-tendered given his salary. The Mets also had interest in trading for Soto.

Danny Knobler is another reporter, not a player in the trade.
