yes, bad hitters can be told to go up to the plate against a pitcher who has control issues and keep the bat on their shoulders, like every other team has been doing to us since forever.

castro's patience is worse than it's ever been, btw, and he's one of the guys in the lineup that the pitchers are pitching around.

the aggressive baserunning is maddening in front of our better hitters.

i don't even know what to say to the absurdity in bold. as if pitch recognition is so easy that they can just flip a switch and get good at it at the major league level.

that's not even what i'm saying, though. you don't need to have legendary pitch recognition to go up there against a guy like zito and tell the hitters to let him get himself in trouble and make him work. i don't know why i have to say that again or why it's so hard to understand. absurd indeed.

as for castro, do you think they haven't told him to be more patient? sveum has talked about it to the media.

he's gotten much worse, so whatever they're doing if anything, isn't working.

good thing he's gotten much better at fielding under their tutelage then and is having his best year yet despite a practically unsustainably low walk rate.

are you saying his walk rate is a fluke?

in any case, whomever is in charge should be embarrassed with that development.

if he is, he will undoubtedly suffer injury after injury, including but not limited to getting a line drive off his good eye and his fingers mashed up in a wine press or losing a leg to a great white shark.

put that on your long list of things that never ever happens to other teams

If you watched another team for a full season that wasn't yours - almost every game and almost every inning - you'd see weird and/or bad crap happening to every single one of them.

This is my first scrub game of the season and soriano is still garbage.

I can't believe he hasn't gotten better at this stage in his career.

That may be true, but it is not due to lack of effort. I respect the guy for going out there every day and playing through pain, but the injuries are definitely taking a toll on him.

Don't bother, it's his schtick.

No, i don't believe that such terrible things that have happened to the cubs happen to any other team. We''re talking historic calamities. They are all cubs tales.
