i just want to get this over with before the braves come to their senses. i mean, did the braves do this because they want to get chipper one last ring, maybe?

Yeah, they did that crazy [expletive] in the Texiera trade (Elvis Andrus, Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Neftali Feliz, Matt Harrison for 1.5 years of Texiera!?) so Schuerholz would have one last run at a World Series.

i'd assume the cubs had a list of teams dempster would approve a trade to before letting a deal get this far.

i'm sure it will still go down as reported.

It was reported he would waive it for Dodgers or Braves. So if he didn't, it would be pretty shocking.

I'm with you on both points.

ETA: Crap, sounds like we have @thekapman on our side.

Sounds like Demp really wanted to go to Los Angeles and had mentally "packed his bags", and is now getting his head around Atlanta. Since he previously approved ATL he'll probably come around in short order. Edited by Elrhino

Right now, my guess is Sveum and the FO are protecting Dempster from being the villain, if he declines the trade.

But....he would be.....the villain.

Yeah - they're doing the PC thing and denying until the trade goes through officially.

Like they did with Soler? So the deal should be complete sometime between Halloween and Thanksgiving.

No he wouldn't. They're denying a deal is even in place. Sure, to us, but we're minority of Cub fans, most won't know this ever went down.

And now for the ultimate troll, Bob Nightengale said if deal goes through, Cubs are getting a second player.

Not that Nightengale would know, but my first interpretation of the tweet referencing something to balance the money was that the Braves would send a dead weight contract to Chicago. Matt Diaz or even Jurrjens would seem to apply.

Yeah, my guess is Diaz. Jurrjens would actually be a fairly decent throw in, in a way.

If we could get Jurrjens out of the deal, that would be great. As bad as he's been this year, he has another under team control and I can't imagine anyone not being happy with him as the throw in.

Matt Diaz? Yech. Now I could actually see why the Braves fans might be excited about a possibility of a Reed Johnson throw in.
