These are the current lines at thegreek.com, and yeah I asked my bookie friends if they'd let me take some action on the other side of that Cubs future. They weren't amused. I am somewhat intrigued by the Atlanta line.

The Cubs & Yankees get more preseason prop bets than any other team.

The line is set to get action. It is the biggest trap I have ever seen.

First of all, these are not prop bets. These are standard futures bets. A prop bet is something like, "Which team will score first," or "How long with the national anthem take?"

Second of all, the line is typically set to discourage action on the Cubs because they get more than enough of it already.

Third of all, what trap?

What in the holy hell are you talking about?

Not only does David speak Spanish natively, he also gambles natively.

I've been outed.

1 - Future bets are PROP bets. At any book, they fall under that category. A future bet is always categorized as a prop bet.

2 - No. The line is made to be as +EV to the book as possible. They love all the Cubs action, because the price is so off. They know every year they are going to get Cubs action so they shade the line as much as possible. You think they are making this line to discourage action? You realize that is the exact opposite of what the sports booking business is about, correct?

Obviously it's about being as +EV as possible. If it were in fact 6-1 and the true odds were longer than that (which they obviously are), that isn't exactly begging for action. If they're still getting action at 6-1, it's obviously insanely +EV for them, but the purpose of setting the odds there is not, by any means, to "get action," which is what you said. They don't need to encourage action on the Cubs. It's there and there's more than enough of it, which is why they can use this strategy.

Fair enough on a futures bet being categorized as a prop bet.

"future bet" is kinda redundant, no? ;)

That it is. I actually am annoyed that it's called that.

They should just call them long term bets or something.
