They signed a young Cy Young caliber pitcher for less than Carlos Zambrano, good for them.

Not bad. $17 mil a year is a lot but he's young and to the best of my knowledge doesn't have injury issues. Plus 5 years is probably the perfect number of years for a pitcher.

I saw this on MLBTR, and they listed the projected FA SP class of 2013, which included Cole Hamels, Matt Cain, Zack Greinke, Shawn Marcum, John Danks, and Anibal Sanchez. Sounds like a great year to have a ton of money coming off the books, although I'll be very surprised if Hamels and Cain make it to free agency.

Sanchez shouldn't be lumped with those guys. Hell, Marcum probably doesn't either since he's the oldest by at least 2-3 years. Danks would be a very good Not Hamels option.
