Sure Juan Pierre did it, as a Cub even, but for some reason it feels like night and day.

 

That's probably because Castro doesn't weakly ground out to second base (or shortstop, since he's a righty) every other at-bat like 4-3 did.

A few folks seemed to get perverse pleasure from pointing out that Pierre led the NL in outs made when he was with the Cubs in '06.

Castro is also now the reigning player of the week:

 

Chicago Cubs shortstop Starlin Castro has been named National League Player of the Week for the period of

August 1-7, 2011. The announcement was made earlier today on MLB Network.

In seven games last week, Castro led the Majors with 17 hits, 10 runs scored and 25 total bases while also leading the

National League with a .515 batting average (17-for-33). The 21-year-old ranked among league leaders with a .543

on-base percentage (3rd), a .758 slugging percentage (7th) and seven RBI (T-7th), while clubbing two home runs. Castro hit

safely in all seven games last week and had multi-hit performances in six of those contests, including four three-hit efforts. The

youngster’s bat played a key role in the Northsiders’ 6-1 record during the week. On Wednesday, August 3rd, Castro logged his

third consecutive three-hit performance, going 3-for-4 with a game-winning solo home run in the eighth inning as the Cubbies

downed the Pittsburgh Pirates, 1-0, in the third game of a four-game set at PNC Park. In Thursday’s game between the N.L.

Central rivals, Castro singled and scored the game-tying run in the eighth inning of an eventual 7-6 Cubs victory, which

completed a four-game sweep of the Bucs. On Saturday, August 6th, the Monte Cristi, Dominican Republic native had four RBI in

the Cubs’ 11-4 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds. Castro’s four RBI were the most since the six-RBI barrage he unleashed in

his Major League debut on May 7, 2010 in Cincinnati. With 150 hits this season, Castro leads the N.L. and ranks third in the

Majors. His 19 games with three hits-or-more are the most in the N.L., and his 44 multi-hit games rank second. This is his

second career weekly award, having won previously for the first week of the 2011 season (March 31-April 3).

Other noteworthy performances last week included Castro’s teammate Carlos Zambrano (2-0, 3.00 ERA, 11 SO, 12.0

IP); Washington’s Rick Ankiel (.313, 4 HR, 9 RBI, 7 R, .750 SLG) and Mike Morse (.452, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 14 H, .469 OBP);

Atlanta’s Jose Constanza (.476, 10 H, 4 R, .714 SLG) and Dan Uggla (.423, 11 H, 8 RBI, 7 R, .885); Milwaukee’s Prince

Fielder (.455, 2 HR, 9 RBI, .864 SLG) and Zack Greinke (2-0, 2.08 ERA, 11 SO, 13.0 IP); Matt Holliday (.400, 4 HR, 10 RBI, 8

R, .920 SLG) of the Cardinals; San Francisco’s Pablo Sandoval (.423, HR, 4 RBI, 11 H, .429 OBP); Colorado’s Troy Tulowitzki

(.458, 11 H, .708 SLG); Arizona’s Ian Kennedy (2-0, 3.00 ERA, 10 SO, 15.0 IP); and Philadelphia’s Cliff Lee (1-0, 0.00 ERA,

CG SHO 8/4 vs. SF).
