If we do let Aram go, and stick with internal options at 3rd, I wonder if there would be room in the budget for Michael Cuddyer in addition to Fielder and Wilson, but as I've said before, it's not realistic to think that we'll be able to go out and nab 3 of the top 5 free agents even if we do have the money.

Assuming we pursue and get Fielder/Pujols and CJ Wilson, I'm guessing we won't have the budget to go get any FAs of any value unless Ricketts approves a payroll hike. With that in mind, I think our best option at that point is to platoon Baker and Ryan Flaherty at third and hope we get Baker's normal production against lefties (.850-.900 OPS) and see what Flaherty does.

If we trade Soriano as well, then it all depends on how much of his salary we free up. That would open another hole in the lineup we'd have to fill, though it would also give us a few million extra to throw around. All of that may go into ensuring we get Fielder and Wilson or it may be used to fill either LF or 3B.

If we can afford Aramis, Fielder and Wilson, we can certainly afford Cuddyer, Fielder, and Wilson. This being said, I dont think theres a reason to. I doubt we'll move Soriano for enough to make it worth while, and the 2012 opening day OF should be Soriano, Jackson, and Byrd with Campana and Colvin as the 4th and 5th, maybe replace Colvin with Montanez or even Ty Wright if Colvin continues to be truely awful.

We can't afford Aramis, Fielder and Wilson, that's the point. After arbitration raises and whatnot, we'll have something in the vicinity of $35-45 million to spend. That should be just enough for Fielder and one of Wilson or Aramis.

Trade for Ian Stewart

He somehow finds a way to be even more awful with each opportunity the Rockies give him.

If he could be acquired cheaply, then I would be all for giving him a shot. But there's no way he can be your plan A at this point.

A lot of people advocate having Flaherty as the primary third baseman if we don't re-sign Aramis. I'd rather take a chance on a guy like Stewart.

A lot of people are advocating a platoon at 3B and Flaherty gets mentioned as one of the possibilities to fill half of the platoon. I've seen at least 6 different names mentioned as possibilities. And the most common one is Baker, not Flaherty. I'd have absolutely no problem with a Baker/whoever platoon for a year if it meant getting Prince/Pujols and Wilson.

You want Baker as your primary third baseman when he's proven he can't hit righties? As the left handed portion of the platoon, Flaherty would get the most at bats and be the primary third baseman. Getting Stewart doesn't preclude hitting Baker against lefties.

I wouldn't have a problem with a Baker/Flaherty/LeMahieu/Barney platoon at 3rd and 2nd if we got Fielder and Wilson...but we all know we would keep DeWitt for some reason.

Can you read? I said a Baker/whoever platoon, not that I want Baker as the primary 3B. I know he can't hit righties, which is why I, and pretty much everyone else, said that if Aramis isn't back to have a platoon.
