Apparently 12 isn't enough pitchers for the Cubs. Snyder said he'd be willing to return to Iowa if not claimed on waivers by another team.

Wierd. I figured Snyder would go down anyway when Johnson comes back Monday but I wonder why the need for Coleman.

I guess they felt that a guy who cant pitch to major league hitters would be more useful than a guy who cant hit major league pitchers.

My guess is that it's just added bullpen depth for a couple days, with a pitcher to go down when Johnson is activated. Between the extra inning games and Wells' shortened outing due to the rain delay the bullpen seems to be taxed. Apparently that's why Quade left Zambrano in when he was clearly finished yesterday.

Adding injury to insult, Cubs reliever Kerry Wood may be headed to the disabled list with a blister on his right index finger.

 

I guess if Wood is going to the DL soon the 13 pitchers makes more sense. Wood going on the DL will probably be the corresponding move when they activate Baker.
