Hopefully Jay Jackson returns soon and they convert Carpenter to starter so theres someone in the Iowa rotation worth caring about.

Does anyone know what happened to Jay Jackson? Did he show up camp overweight or is this injury related?

I don't even bother reading the Iowa box scores these days.

He was sent to extended ST because his velo was down.

Another home run for Flaherty. Looks like he doesn't want to be the forgotten guy in that group.

home run for my man ha... first of the year. cerda is 3-4 with a double.

simpson sucked (4 ip, 6 h, 4 r, 2 er, 2 bb, 3 k). most of the damage was in the first so at least he sucked a little less after that.

Also a home run for Ha tonight.

I won't mention the pitching across the minors, though.

#Cubs Ryan Flaherty, sleeper of mine since seeing him in college, just CRUSHED a HR to CF. Not easy with high wall here

BenBadler

#Cubs Josh Vitters with a three-pitch K, whiffs at curveball down and in. Sounds bad but mostly good pitching by D. Thompson

#Great jump in CF by Brett Jackson going back to chase down a ball deep in the RCF gap #Cubs

#Watching #Cubs AA team. Josh Vitters with a nice inside-out swing to take the ball to RF to drive in a run in the first

The AA club has to be one of the better offensive units in any league, relative to that league that is.

Good start to the year for Scott Moore, particularly the 6:5 BB/K. At this stage of his career, best case is a Jeff Baker-ish type role, but I always liked him somewhat.

Decent outing for Rusin. Sudden dearth of good prospect starting talent in the upper minors, so a guy like Rusin holds a tiny bit more interest.

Searle has gotten off to a decent start this year. Any indication if his fastball velo has gotten better out of the pen? Although considering his repetoire, not the biggest deal.

Jokisch has a surprisingly high number of walks and flyouts. Granted, early, and overall, a good start to the year.

Today’s intrasquad game featured the U. S. debut of five more Dominican pitchers who were called up to Fitch Park from the Cubs Dominican Academy in Boca Chica, including 20-year old 6’2 lanky LHP Willengton Cruz, 19-year old stocky RHP Rafael Diplan, 21-year old RHP Santo Rodriguez, 22-year old RHP Jean Sandoval, and 20-year old RHP Yilver Sanchez.

Peralta, W. Cruz, Y. Sanchez, Sandoval, and Villalba were the “Big 5” starting rotation for the Dominican Summer League Baseball City Division Champion DSL Cubs #1 last season (the 2010 DSL Cubs #1 had the best record of the 34 teams that play in the DSL, while DSL Cubs #2 AKA "Bad News Cubs" had the worst record), and of the five Dominican hurlers who threw today, W. Cruz really stood out. He has some nasty stuff.

That's Starling Peralta and Luis Villalba.
