Wouldn't mind Aaron Hill if he can start hitting again. I didn't realize how good defensively he is. He's had only one season of a negative dWAR in his career. Kelly Johnson might come cheaper though.

And regarding Hill's options, didn't the Jays just decline all of them?

.196 BABIP last year. He's about the easiest candidate for a bounceback in the entire league.

Not really. He's been useful an entire two years out of his career. He's never been an OBP guy either. I'm not opposed to acquiring him or anything. He's at worst better than Barney obviously, but I don't think he's a slam dunk bounceback.

I know our team is choc full o' outfielders, but if I thought there was an outside chance that Carlos Beltran could stay healthy, hed be my top target. However, what we really need is a 2B, and since it doesn't appear as though Blake DeWitt will be given a chance, Johnson or Hill would be the best options. Hill probably has the higher upside, but Johnson is probably the safer bet.

Where in the world is Carlos Beltran going to play on this team?

If we could find a way to move Byrd, CF.

Beltran? That is some Backtobanks-type isht right there.

No, that would be

Cubs get

Beltran

Aaron Hill

Mets get

Thomas Diamond

Scott Moore

Justin Berg

Jays get

Jeff Samardjzia

Darwin Barney

Nothing like being criticized about "ridiculous" trade proposals by someone who suggest we trade for a 34-year-old OF with bad knees making $18.5 million this year when we don't need an OF.

Yeah really.

Timely of fangraphs to release an article on Hill today.

While I hate attributing upticks or downturns in performance to the magical BABIP fairy, Hill’s 2010 cannot be explained any other way. His batting average on balls in play was .196. Mark Reynolds‘ regular batting average topped that mark. And while Hill’s rate of popping up pitches did not help matters in the BABIP department, his slash line would have remained well below average even with his career popup rate.

What bodes well for the Jays, and particularly for Hill, is the extreme rarity of BABIPs in that vicinity. Of batters with at least 500 PAs in a season, Hill’s .196 is the lowest BABIP since 1950. Further, only one other batter fell below a .200 BABIP in a season: the immortal Curt Blefary in 1968. Aside from Hill, 39 batters have produced a BABIP of .225 or under in a season. In the following season, the hitters that amassed another 500 trips to the dish saw their rates increase by an average of almost 50 points.

So "yeah really" would be bouncing back towards a lovely .325ish OBP? Like I said he's not going to be an offensive blackhole again, but do you really expect him to hit like he did in 2009 or even 2007? I think his career line of .270/.325/.427 is about what you should be expecting him to bounceback to, best case scenario. If he bounces back more, fine. Don't expect it.

Keep in mind that Jeff Baker's career line has a higher slugging and OBP than that. Hell his abysmal 2010 is essentially the same.
