Bob Nightengale of USA Today told Jim Bowden of MLB Network Radio on Monday that he thinks it's possible Francisco Liriano will be traded to the Yankees sometime in the next two weeks.

We've heard discussion about the Twins possibly trading Liriano from a variety of sources, so it appears this rumor has legs. The Yankees have an obvious need in their rotation, but the Twins would be trading away the closest thing they have to an ace at the moment. According to Nightengale, the Twins would acquire either Ivan Nova or Joba Chamberlain, in addition to other pieces. Stay tuned, because it sounds like things are about to get very interesting.

If this is true, I hope the Twins are asking for a ton because they would be trading away "the closest thing they have to an ace at the moment" and they're expected to be a serious contender in the AL Central this year.

I am kind of perplexed at the constant rumors of them shopping Liriano. I know his value is at his highest and perhaps they don't feel his health will hold up, but they are front runners in that division if Morneau is healthy and Nathan's arm is healed. Trading away your best starter for building blocks seems like a step in the wrong direction. Considering he's under control through 2012, they don't need to trade him at all.

It's kind of odd. What would be a comparable package of Nova/Chamberlain and "other pieces" for the Cubs?

I really hope the Cubs don't consider trying to figure out what that package is.

If the Yankees offer is Joba then I don't mind trying to find something.

I think the key in that is Joba..."and other pieces." Joba ain't getting this deal done on his own. The Yanks are going to have to either pony up the good prospects as well.

Funny, his numbers last year look pretty "ace-y" to me. He's got his faults, but the that org has jerked this kid around is pure foolishness.
