Made official today, apparently. I approve of this. The team website rosters don't usually get updated until a few weeks before P&C; the Cubs usually update theirs around mid-January.

Pena will be the first starting position player to wear no. 22 since Bill Buckner in 1983; everyone to don it since then has either been a pitcher or a bench player. The people who bought nameless no. 22 jerseys during Prior's run and have since seen those jerseys go from Prior to Hart to Gorzelanny to Nady are okay with this as well, I imagune.

On the topic of jersey numbers, Kerry Wood reclaims his familiar no. 34 (sorry, Jeff Gray) to the surprise of what I assume is of no one.

(a) I have a nameless 22 jersey. :)

(b) Jeff Gray signed a minor league deal with the White Sox, so 34 was available.

Congratulations on your new Carlos Pena jersey!

I thought it was odd that he wasn't still on the roster. Let's be honest, though, even if Gray were still with the Cubs, no. 34 would have been available for Kerry Wood.

Even if he was still on the team, I have a feeling 34 would have been available to Kerry.

It was John Grabow's locker last year.

"Not anymore," Wood said with a laugh.

Billy Buck is my all-time favorite Cub. Wear it well, Carlos!

I was just going to post this. I still relate #22 to Buckner.
