The Cubs are adding another premium pricing tier at Wrigley Field, but said the average 2011 ticket price will remain flat.

Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts sent letters to season tickets-holders on Friday informing them of the changes.

The Cubs have not announced the plan, and did not reveal exact numbers. Invoices will go out in a week or so, the Cubs said.

Cubs president Crane Kenney said the new "marquee" price tier will consist of 13 games, including Opening Day and three series against the Yankees, White Sox and Cardinals. The Cubs said these games will have about a 12 percent average increase, but the "average season ticket holder will (remain) flat," because of the reductions in some platinum, gold, silver and bronze games.

so they are increasing the high demand tickets to pay for the losses generated by less attractive games (pirates, astros, etc.) that became a huge liability due to last years increase, the recession, and the team sucking. huh. Seems like lowering the prices back to a couple of years ago's level and keeping the place consistently packed achieves the same result along with alienating alot less people.

only the cubs

lowering prices back to a couple of years ago isn't going to "keep the place packed." when the cubs suck, like they did this year, there will be empty seats. there were in 2006, there were in 2002, etc. the cubs will have a packed house when they're good and attendance will go down when they're bad, but not too much because a lot of people buy tickets well in advance and people just go to see wrigley field anyway.

the proper answer is for the cubs to spend money more wisely and to not be bad at baseball.
