Royals DFA Jose Guillen

Royals designated OF/DH Jose Guillen for assignment.

Good for the Royals for having some guts and cutting Guillen loose. The veteran has been struggling mightily lately, and even if he had been playing well, it would behoove the Royals to focus on their younger players and not give Guillen much playing time. This news is great for Kila Ka'aihue, who should find regular playing time at first base now, with Billy Butler shifting to DH. Mitch Maier and Gregor Blanco should see a bump in playing time, as well. If KC is unable to trade him, look for Guillen to sign on with a contender in need of a bat (Giants?).

His production numbers have been alright, but his rate stats are terrible. He should still stick on somewhere. The Royals are slowly getting smarter... first trading Podsednik so they could make room for Gordon in the outfield, and now DFA'ing Guillen to get Ka'aihue in the lineup. There may be hope for this team yet.
