Cook makes absolutely no sense for the Cubs. I don't see that happening. It's pretty obvious the Cubs are looking to reduce their payroll not trade essentially a one year player in Theriot for Cook's horrible contract.

I just looked at Cook's stats and his salary and it's awful. He's due over $9m next year and he has a 1.5 WHIP. He's really effective against right handers but no so much against lefties. He reminds me of Jon Leiber.

 

Pass on that one. Maybe they'd give up Seth Smith, doubful but maybe.

 

Maybe Cook could be used as part of a three way deal, with the Rockies picking up part of his salary?

I hated Theriot at the 1 and 2 spot, but a lot of teams could do worse than Ryan Theriot at the 8 spot. This being said, we should get whatever we can for him because a Fontenot/Baker 2B platoon would be far more productive and call up Barney as a backup SS.

 

So I guess I'll do this since no one else has - why does any of that 1 2 8 stuff matter in a discussion of whether he is good or not?

To wager a guess it's probably out of fear that the next manager will put him back in the leadoff spot due to antiquated logic. Especially if it's Sandberg who has shown a fondness for small ball.
