I think you guys are overanalyzing things. Two similarly talented teams will go out and play a hockey game, and the team that gets bounces and breaks will win. Same as always.

If that were true then no team ever outplays an opponent.

Sure they do. But that doesn't mean they'll win. Vancouver outplayed the Blackhawks for game 2 and most of game 3, in my estimation.

I know I'm overstating it by saying "always," but lucky has a far higher impact in any given hockey game than skill, unless one team is just hopelessly better than the other.

Game 2 I agree....but while Van outplayed Chi in the first 10 min or so of game 3, after that, I think it was all Chicago.

I'd say both games 2 and 3 the Hawks were outplayed the first 20 minutes, and outplayed Vancouver for the last 40. Game 1 was the opposite.

Game 2 - Vancouver dominated the first 10 minutes badly. The Hawks barely belonged on the ice. However the last 50 minutes seemed to be dominated by the Hawks save a minute or two here and there.

Game 3 - Vancouver played a pretty decent game. They had a ton of good chances in the 1st period, and I think they outplayed the Hawks but not as badly as game 2. They also in my estimation outplayed the Hawks in the 2nd period, as the Hawks looked stagnant. The 3rd period the Hawks outplayed Vancouver.

A fan charting of scoring chances in game 3:

From that, it looks kind of half and half. From the 8:38 mark of the second period through the end of the game, the Hawks were dominating the chances.

Before that, though, the Canucks were really dominating chances.

It'd be easier if Niemi wore #1 as well.

RT @TSNBobMcKenzie: Darren Dreger reporting now on TSN that NHL concedes last Chi goal last night should have been disallowed due to goalie interference.

Which is easy for them to do since it did not impact the outcome of the game at all. Perhaps it can be argued that Vancouver took their foot off the gas and just resorted to the goonery once it became a three-goal lead, but the Canucks themselves won't be making that argument, so it's a moot point.

I expect a barrage of goalie interference penalties to be called. Any Hawk that even brushes against Luongo will be called on it. That's the bad thing about it. The Hawks scored a goal that should have been disallowed, even though it was probably meaningless to the game and now I feel like the refs will be out to make up for that call. This will be a tough one to take.

I dunno...refs don't like being told what to call. And it seems like in general the refs in the playoffs have let the teams play...I haven't seen much ticky-tack stuff called.

If they push Luongo into the goal though, I expect that one might get called. :)

I have to disagree with this, and Todd McClellan's working (over) of the refs in the SJ-DET series is a prime example. He was all over them early in the series and Game 3 was a debacle because of it. I think they are influenced by this sort of thing, and I expect them to crack down tonight.

FYI, if anyone wants to go to game 5, I've started pulling up tickets on ticketmaster.com. I just bought a pair in the 300 level ($70 tickets), but so far have only been able to pull up a few singles. But I'm sure more will be getting released soon either tonight or tomorrow morning.

This Boston-Philly game better not go to OT. It will be absolutely [expletive] if they don't/can't show the first part of the Hawks game.

Obviously doesn't apply to you, but in Chicago I think they put it on another channel until the game is over.

Yeah I figured they would accomodate you lucky folks. And of course Boston just tied it.

Oh nevermind, I'm an idiot. Channel 604. Can't believe I spent all that time rooting for Philadelphia.

Do you happen to know what station (not channel number) the Hawks game is on? I'm assuming they'd do the opposite here and put the philly boston game on another channel (VS switched to the Hawks with 38 secs left in that game). I have comcast, so your channel number won't matter just the name of the station

Oh it's a Versus Alternate channel. That's what they called it. I thought the announcer said at the end of the 3rd period of the Philly game that for Chicago folks they weren't cutting over. But that can't be right.
