The Cubs clearly aren't blown away by any of the center fielders on the free agent market, preferring to explore trades. One name to file away is Fernando Perez. Speedy, bright and the holder of a .375 minor league on-base percentage, the Rays switch hitter, 27 in April, would be an interesting gamble complicated because he is recovering from shoulder surgery.

Looking over this guys minor league numbers, I think wed do just as well to give one of our own the opportunity, Fuld or Colvin.

Fuld and Colvin are going to have to pray for a miracle to get a chance to start in this organization.

just 5 HR but strike out 156 times in a season? those are some terrible contact skills

and obviously Hendry would never even consider bringing in a minor leaguer from another organization to play everyday. what's the biggest gamble he's ever made on a player in the opening day lineup? Cedeno?

This sounds like Phil Rogers name dropping to make himself sound forward thinking and intelligent. It seems like he just found the guy in the minors who has consistently stolen the most bases with the highest OBP and ignored everything else.

The Cubs already have somebody on their roster with eerily similar minor league numbers in Sam Fuld. No need to waste assests on something the Cubs already have. This is Phil Rogers not thinking again.
