ESPN says Soriano was traded to the Rays

The Braves dealt Rafael Soriano to the Tampa Bay Rays on Thursday in exchange for right-handed reliever Jesse Chavez, whom the Rays landed in the Akinori Iwamura deal earlier this offseason, according to ESPN The Magazine's Buster Olney. Ah, the constant shuffling of relief parts -- confused yet?

If you assume Harden needs surgery. Why is that assumed?

Because his velocity isn't what it once was. There were too many starts last in which he was strong at one point and then dropped off the next start. Harden definitely has something wrong either on his shoulder or elbow, he's become a two pitch pitcher and he's not affective if his fastball is hitting 89 because his changed up is at 85 so there isn't much drop off.

Fair enough. But there isn't any diagnosis.

There wasn't a diagnosis for Prior for a couple years after he was clearly hurt either.

IIRC Harden's slider and splitter were very nasty too. One was regarded as one of the best pitches in baseball as in Harden had one of the top splitters or sliders.. but I cant remember which one.

It was his splitter. It apparently would knuckle and so I believe it was Jason Kendall that took to calling it the "Spluckle."

The mystery team strikes again!

Mystery team exceeds four years for Bay

A major league source told WEEI.com that one team has extended an offer beyond four years for free agent outfielder Jason Bay.

It's not the Red Sox. The Mets are the most recent team to enter the bidding, having submitted an offer in the range of $63 million over four years. Just this afternoon, Bay's agent Joe Urbon said there were better offers than Boston's on the table, so perhaps the Mets decided to add another year. Stay

Apparently the mystery team moved on from Bradley to Bay.

Former Oakland Athletics catcher Adam Melhuse coined the term "spluckle
