i love that the dodgers are starting phillies rejects against them and the phillies are getting big hits from guys like victorino and werth, who they got from the dodgers for basically nothing.

when i close my eyes and dream about what i want the cubs offense to be, i see the phillies lineup.

8/9 runs coming on homerun balls. If the Jaramillo haters are correct, you'll get your wish.

The Yankees/Phillies WS is going to be epic. I can't wait for it.

sweetness is found with this dodgers beat down

nothing would make me happier than a 7 game WS that is a one run game in the bottom of the ninth

Ugh. Worst case scenario. Either the [expletive] Yankees win the WS or I have to listen to my really good friend gloat about how the Phillies won back-to-back WS.

jayson werth is one ugly dude

yeah!

up close he looks and sounds like a red neck

Maybe his ugliness prevented him from winning MVP.

He only hit .222, but that was the best clutch hitting big series .222 average I've ever seen. The guy was a menace.

MLB really needs to tighten up the postseason schedule. If the Yankees win it with their next game it's still almost a week until the WS starts. Chop down some of those off days and maybe add a few double headers during the regular season for all the teams so that baseball is done before November, please.

This is interesting.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Major_League_Baseball_awards

The Warren C. Giles Trophy is presented annually to the champion of the National League. Named for Warren Giles, who was league president from 1951 to 1969, the award is passed from champion to champion, rather than a new trophy being created each season. Honorary league president and owner of the Phillies, Bill Giles, has the honor of presenting the trophy to the National League champion at the conclusion of each National League Championship Series.

The William Harridge Trophy is the American League's counterpart to the Giles Trophy, and is presented each year to the American League champion. The trophy features a golden eagle, the league's emblem, sitting atop a silver baseball and clutching the American League banner. The trophy is named for Will Harridge, who was league president from 1931 to 1958. The Tampa Bay Rays are the current holders of the Harridge Trophy, in honor of their 2008 American League championship. Unlike its National League counterpart, a new trophy is awarded each year.

I agree.

Keith Law said on The Herd today the reason they will not do this is because MLB thinks the logistics in pulling off the WS would be too complicated by changing the dates. Also, he said this is the only reason they don't make the best record the decider for home-field in the WS. I think it's a weak argument.

i don't understand where home field deciders come into this discussion or how it is even relevant

I was just pointing out that the logistics behind getting hotel rooms and all the people in the right place at the right time to run the WS are the cause for not changing the dates (according to Keith Law). Not to mention TV.

Also, these same logistical reasons are why MLB has not gone to a system where the best record decides home-field advantage in the WS. Potentially they would only have 2 or 3 days to prepare for Game 1 of the WS in up to 3 different cities (1 of the teams will not host no matter who they are playing). Knowing which league will host the WS narrows it down to 2. It seems like a weak answer to me, but that's the reason (according to Keith Law) MLB has given for not changing the date of Game 1 or letting the site of Game 1 be dependent on best record.

Me, I think it's just all about money. The networks will pay more to broadcast the games if they get to choose when they are played.

once again let me give a special word of gratitude to my father. instead of rooting for the phillies, who i grew up 10 miles away from and have won a world series and two pennants in the last two years, i root for a team 700 miles away that last won the pennant in 1945 and last won the world series over 100 years ago. thanks dad!

The third straight year a team sweeps the NL Central champion out of the first round and then gets destroyed in the NLCS. Shows something about our NL Central maybe.
