There is no QB competition. Stop caring what Jay Cutler does in preseason games, and be happy he didn't get hurt.

If anything, hopefully this will dampen the excessive hype machine now. It's fun to hear about all the camp surprises and great practices, but there are things that really do need work.

turner's [expletive] is getting old.

i wouldn't expect him to call a legitimate game plan in this game

lol basanez is UGLY

Yeah. I think we're going to see a resurgence of the questions about why the heck we have him on the roster. Pretty much anything would be better. There's nothing that shows me Basanez belongs in the NFL in any capacity.

Thoughts on Alfalava? I liked what I saw when I was paying attention.

One of the bright spots. If Steltz fails, would he be our guy?

Steltz blows and they all know that. I expect Afalava and Payne to be the starters on opening night.

Yea, I'm pretty sure Steltz was already at the bottom of the depth chart, behind Afalava. I could be wrong, though.

I don't think it's necessarily a good thing to need to start him this quickly.

Cutler needs to stop forcing passes where no one is open

I have a feeling you'll be saying that all year long.

After one game, a preseason game? Once Cutler gets comfortable I doubt we'll see too many Grossmanesque throws like the one tonight.

If he keeps his TD:INTs ratio to about 2:1 then I am fine. four of the fifteen QBs in front of Cutler thre double digit INTs, with Brees throwing one less INT despite throwing the ball 19 more times then Cutler. I don't expect Cutler to throw 18 INTs this yr, because quite frankly Cutler isn't going to be asked to throw the ball 616 times like he did last yr. The most passes a Chicago QB threw in one season was 480 in 2006 and that was Rex Grossman and he finished that season with 23 TDs to 20 INTs. Basically, I expect Cutler and Rodgers to have similar numbers in 2009. So I'm not sweating about picks in preseason.

plus this preseason they are going to be throwing a lot of basic, easy-to-defend packages at defenses. it's all going to be very simple. this preseason is about getting people on the same page and keeping people healthy. stats dont matter at all.

If the defense plays as well as it did last night, the Bears will deal with Cutler's picks just fine. Grossman and Orton threw their share of picks too, just without the positives we'll get from Cutler. I fully expect less picks over the years as he matures more (as a QB).

Alfalava was very impressive last night. Very "Mike Brown-esque".

By the way, I don't blame Cutler for trying to force things in a preseason game. On the one where he threw the pick...what is he supposed to do? Eat the ball and take a sack in a preseason game? No chance. Throw the ball and avoid getting hit...I don't want Cutler hurt in a preseason game.

Last year among guys who started 10+ games, only Bulger, Favre, Frerotte, Romo and Roethlisberger had a higher INT%. Two of those guys are out of football.

You can say it's because he had to do too much but that's just who he is and it's what everyone said he would be coming out of college. Don't get me wrong, he's a stud and I wish like hell the Vikings would have been able to make that deal. He'll complete a good percentage, he can get the ball downfield, he'll score touchdowns but he'll also make a good number of bad decisions where he forces the ball and throws picks.

This.

And I'm very concerned about Hanie being the backup.
