I've been considering hooking myself up with MLB.TV for a while now because my lovely dorm doesn't pick up CSN or CSN+ so I still can't watch half of the games. I just had a question about the blackout rules. Obviously, living in chicago both the Cubs and Sox are blacked out for me. However, take tonight as an example. We are playing the pirates, so will I be able to watch the game, just on the pirates broadcast? Or will it be blacked out since the cubs are playing?

Also, how terrible is MLB.TV? That is, how far behind the actual game does it tend to run?

You would still be blacked out tonight (both feeds) because it's still the Cubs playing and you are in their blackout area. Depending on you internet connection you can be very close to real time, but for the most part I usually am about 10-15 sec. behind (or about 2-3 pitches).

ah. well if I can't see the cubs then it's really not worth me wasting my money on it. Thanks for saving me a few bucks.

For my experience, using the HD caliber feeds skip pretty badly on my internet connection. It can also be as much as a couple minutes behind live action. I usually turn off NexDef and put it on 4 bars(maximum SD) and it looks fine on my 19" TV. It also runs pretty much at real time. I haven't used it all that much though, certainly not as much as I've wanted(although with the Cubs this year..)

For blackout stuff, there should be a place around the MLB.tv site to test what teams are blacked out for you. My guess is there's no way you're not blacked out of Cubs games. I live 2 hours from St. Louis and 2 hours from KC and both the Cards and Royals are blacked out.

Yeah, I'm blacked out for both cubs and sox games, obviously. I just didnt knwo if that counted only for the home broadcasts or if that meant I couldn't see them at all.

Nope, you cannot see them at all.

Yea, the premium definitely isn't "live", it's just the normal feed 4 or 5 minutes behind. For me it freezes alot, but that's because I'm connected to the internet wirelessly most of the time.

Has anybody tried using a credit card that is not in the blackout area when signing up? Ive wondered if that works.

I too use the feed strategy TT is talking about and its pretty damn close to real time. The quality is still pretty good and i like that i can now get the away feeds instead of listening to the other teams announcers. To me thats worth the premium even though im not using the quality of the stream.
