Hendry's offseason was abysmal, but I just wonder if he was told "no new payroll" and just didn't handle the zero sum game well. Which -- you can make a case that it's his job to handle changing financial conditions, so that can't be an excuse.

I'm just going to wait until I see what happens tomorrow, back @ home. If we don't see some life from this club against a decidedly bad club while @ home, then maybe this is a case where the slump is becoming a mentality that we may not recover from all season.

I think what people are forgetting is that today's game was the worst game score wise during the 7 game streak. For the most part the Cubs have been in games they just can't get that hit or two to win the game. It is not as if the Cubs are losing 10-1, 7-0, etc, etc. The Cubs are not as bad as this streak might suggest, just unlucky. So you can't reward managers/GM for good luck, but you certaintly cann't scapegoat managers/GM on bad luck.

That is irrelevant. A loss is a loss.

A move needs to be made. What the hell has Patton done for us in this seven game losing streak? Get another bat here, pronto.

Of course it is, but the fact remains that the Cubs are not as bad as the losing streak suggests, just merely unlucky.

As for a move, I agree if you are not going to use David Patton then stop wasting a roster spot on him. The Cubs have more then enough arms in the system to replace Patton (Shark, Gaub, Archer, Stevens, etc), so get Patton out and get another bat in.

Their road trip scoring output was incompetence, not bad luck.

A little bit of both. There been games in which they hit the ball hard but right at somebody, and there been games in which they've sleep walk their way through. So, it's a little of both, to be honest.

I don't see it. They completely abandoned any kind of plate discipline and swung for the fences. That's just bad playing. You create "good luck" by having good at bats. They didn't.

Hitting the ball hard at someone happens all the time in baseball. It's not a rare occurence worthy of noting IMHO. It still falls under the category of "not hitting".
