Jake Peavy to the White Sox?

Already 10 games out of first place just a quarter of the way through the season, the San Diego Padres are in discussions to trade pitcher Jake Peavy to the Chicago White Sox, according to a published report.

 

Citing information from Padres personnel, The San Diego Union-Tribune reported Peavy met with Padres manager Bud Black late Wednesday to discuss a trade overture from the Sox.

 

Peavy's approval would be needed for a trade. The right-hander declined to comment, though the paper said Peavy referred to the situation as "something to think about" in the clubhouse.

 

Peavy is 89-67 in eight big-league seasons, all with San Diego. He is believed to prefer pitching in the National League, and an unidentified Padres player told the paper Peavy may have reservations about playing for White Sox manager Ozzie Guillen.

 

Peavy is 3-5 with a 3.82 ERA in nine starts this season. He has struck out 69 batters in 61 innings.

According to the San Diego Union-Tribune, the White Sox and Padres are nearing agreement on a trade centered around Jake Peavy.
