I see Strasburg is already available on waivers and listed with Washington. Interesting CBS makes that move without him even being officially drafted yet or signed a contract.

When is the next minor league draft for us? Is it right after the actual amateur draft considering he could pitch this year?

I would put his chances of pitching in the bigs this year at about a 1 in 1000 chance. I think Washington would have to be in a playoff hunt for there to even be a trace of a thought of it, and I certainly don't see that happening.

Why waste a year of his services in a season where his contribution would be meaningless?

This coming offseason is when Washington just might want to make their move, however.

Stephen Strasburg, SP WAS

News: As if San Diego State's Stephen Strasburg didn't clinch his No. 1 overall status for the First Year Player Draft on June 9 before, he pitched his first collegiate no-hitter, blanking Air Force behind 17 strikeouts May 8. Aztecs pitching coach Rusty Filter told Baseball America correspondent John Maffei that Strasburg hit 101 mph on the radar gun twice in the 117-pitch outing, and he reached 98 twice in the ninth. "I was giving it everything I had left at the end," Strasburg told BA.

Analysis: That's the ninth inning, folks, after 117 pitches. There are hardly a handful of major league arms with that kind of late life. Tim Lincecum and Justin Verlander might be it. Both of those prospects soared quickly to the major leagues, but it took at least a calendar year. There are scouts who think Strasburg can pitch and thrive in the major leagues immediately, but Scott Boras is his agent and there is expected to be a typical drawn-out negotiation process to take place. Even if he does sign, would a 100-loss Nationals team tax his arm in meaningless games late in the year? The problem with stashing Strasburg on CBSSports.com right now is you cannot assign him to the minors in leagues that have those roster designations. He is not signed, similar to a Ben Sheets. He occupies a regular reserve spot even in long-term keeper leagues. We had to add this next mega-prospect as a service to our users that wanted him, but we still cannot project him having any Fantasy impact in 2009.

Since the rule actually states that we can't pick up any MINOR LEAGUERS as fa's until our next minor league draft, I wanted to let everyone know that I picked up the COLLEGE player Strasburg tonight.

Thanks, and out. :D
