Initial Keeper Draft Team

I lucked out and drew the 1st pick and then A-Rod fell to me at the last pick of the 2nd round of an initial keeper draft in a 12 team H2H league where we can keep any 10. I did have my concerns about ARod's ability to finish a season (aka fantasy playoffs) but the prospect of having his production for the next 5 years or so was too much to pass on.

This was the team I was able to put together.

Hitting - R, HR, RBI, SB, BB, K, Fielding %, AVG, OPS

C - Soto

1B - Chris Davis

2B - Mike Aviles

SS - Hanley Ramirez

3B - ARod (Hank Blalock filling in)

OF- Soriano

OF- Jay Bruce

OF- Milton Bradley

UTIL - Shin-Soo Choo

UTIL - Justin Upton

Bench - Blalock, Billy Butler, Elijah Dukes

Pitching - W, L, SV, HR Allowed, ERA, WHIP, K, QS, Holds

SP - Dan Haren, Jon Lester, Joba Chamberlain, Clayton Kershaw, Jair Jurrgens

RP - Valverde, K Wood, Chris Ray, Arrendondo, Cory Wade, Rafael Soriano

What do you think? There are some risks both injury and developmental but I think I'm happy with how it turned out. I wanted to get Papelbon as the only truly elite young closer that you can pencil in for a long time. But some fool went, Lincecum, Santana, Papelbon as his first 3 picks. I didn't really want Soriano but he was by far the best value on the board after I took ARod on the other side of the turn thanks to being in a league with a bunch of Cardinal fans.

fielding %?

what's with people using weird stats in their fantasy leagues? I can understand wanting to get away from the normal 5x5 as it overvalues some skills and undervalues others. But fielding %?

It's better than what was kicked around - GIDP. It was done to keep hitting and pitching even because no consensus could be had on which pitching category to eliminate. It does make 1b and OF slightly more valuable.

GIDP is infinitely better than fielding percentage as a fantasy stat. INFINITELY.
