The RHP the Cubs drafted last year, came into camp out of shape and there's a legit poss. that he might be released given how messed up he is mentally.

 

Not related to the Cubs but Mr. Irrelevant (Kyle Stroup) who signed with the Red Sox as the final pick of the '08 draft for 150K has gained 50 pounds from July/August and is now 6'4" 300LBs.

Damn it. First Acosta. Cales looked moderately interesting at Boise last season.

 

I don't get why these guys who are paid to be athletes (esp the ones who get $150,000 bonuses) can't stay in shape.

I was talking to Zielinski at the UIC/NU game who signed him and he's thinking that Cales might be released, but he's the least likely to give you an accurate answer b/c he is the most sensitive scout out there.

 

As far as Stroup, it's funny how many scouts wrote him off, I told my boss, you draft him, don't mention my name anywhere as I want nothing to do with it. Which is exactly what the associate scout did for Boston. I try to like all the ballplayers whether or not their signable or even if they show some jackassical behavior like Ian Krol this year, but I couldn't stand Stroup.
