Not that bad of a deal for the Pirates, IMO. I would assume that team option in 2012 won't be exercised unless the Pirates can really turn it around.

That's certainly a good question. Under Dave Littlefield, I'd automatically assume it wouldn't be picked up. (OTOH, would littlefield have done this contract? Probably not )

 

Under these guys, I really have no clue. There are promises to spend money when it's time. Let's see what happens when the time comes, for it is certainly not now.

 

Keep one other thing in mind. We now have minor league talent that potentially could push McLouth out, making him trade bait. (Most of that talent is a bit of a ways off, but it's there. And, most of it still has to develop - it's all potential. )
