RHP Ryan Searle is a 19-year-old Aussie who made his debut with the Cubs last summer. He made stops in the Rookie-level Arizona League and the short-season Northwest League and had a nice debut. Over 34 1/3 combined innings, Searle had a 1.05 ERA and held opponents to a .171 batting average, really coming on the scene as a sinker-slider guy who throws in the low- to mid-90s.

Good information on Searle's repertoire.

I don't remember where I read it (since the end of the season), but Searle has a building reputation of good stuff/fragile head. Maybe a full season at Peoria will quell those concerns.

Baseball America's Nathan Rode in a 2008 NWL Top 20 Prospects chat.

Q: Patrick from Chicago, IL asks:

What kind of stuff does Ryan Searle have? How does he project?

A: Nathan Rode: Couple of questions about this guy. Searle, a RHP out of Australia, reportedly has a fastball that is 88-91 with a decent slurve. However, he's got a soft body and I've heard the makeup needs a lot of work. He's got a good arm and is interesting, but probably not top-tier for the Cubs.

He's high on my list of guys I want to see at Peoria this season. He posted interesting numbers down at Boise and is still young enough to develop further.

Decent article on Ryan Searle trying out for the Australian World Classic Team.

Searle is set to ... join the Cubs’ acceleration camp for talented prospects in Arizona at the end of the month.

Is that what we call Fitch Park?

Searle, whose fastball has been clocked at 152km/h (95mph), is full of confidence after making a dream debut season for Cubs feeder side Boise Hawks in the A Ball league last year.
