Blue Jays Sign Michael Barrett

By Tim Dierkes [December 29 at 2:27pm CST]

According to ESPN's Buster Olney, the Blue Jays signed catcher Michael Barrett to a minor league deal. Barrett, 32, accepted the Padres' offer of arbitration in December of '07. He injured his elbow in April and broke his nose in July, resulting in a second consecutive lost season.

I know hes lost a step or 2, but surely I thought hed warrant a major league deal from someone. Granted, hid defensive skills leave much to be desired, but hes better offensively than a lot of catchers out there.
